Seasonal Positions at Baxter State Park

There are currently 40 part time or seasonal positions at the Park varying from 12 weeks to 35 weeks. vacancies for our summer seasonal positions (listed below) usually develop between March and May. We accept applications for seasonal positions from May to March and hold these applications for screening prior to annual interviews. We conduct annual interviews for existing and potential vacancies every year – usually in mid-March. We work to fill our seasonal vacancies from candidate lists developed from these interviews. Read the Position Description for minimum qualifications and a job description and standard for the position. Regardless of current vacancies, if you are interested in a position, we encourage you to apply – we cannot predict what positions may open in the future.

Trail Crew Leader

This is maintenance and personal services work in coordinating and overseeing work crews involved in Baxter State Park trail construction and maintenance. Responsibilities include prioritizing projects, scheduling daily activities, assigning tasks, providing training, and overseeing work crews in their daily operations. Supervision is exercised over students, volunteers and laborers. Work is performed under general supervision.

Campground Ranger

This is maintenance and personal services work in meeting the public and performing various tasks necessary to properly maintain and protect land, buildings, facilities, and the natural resources within Baxter State Park at a specific campground and surrounding areas. Work includes performing park conservation activities and informing visitors of weather conditions and rules and regulations. Work is performed under general supervision.

Backcountry Ranger -Winter

This is maintenance and personal services work in meeting the public and performing various tasks necessary to properly maintain and protect land, buildings, facilities, and the natural resources of Baxter State Park locations within the remote backcountry area of Chimney Pond Campground, trails and surrounding areas. The distinguishing characteristic is the remote location and winter conditions in which the work is being performed. Work includes park conservation activities, informing visitors of winter weather conditions and rules and regulations. Work is performed under the supervision of a Baxter Park Ranger 1.

Backcountry Ranger -Summer

This is maintenance and personal services work in meeting the public and performing various tasks necessary to properly maintain and protect land, buildings, facilities, and the natural resources of Baxter State Park locations within the remote backcountry area of Chimney Pond Campground and Russell Pond, trails and surrounding areas. The distinguishing characteristic is the remote location of work being performed. Work includes park conservation activities, informing visitors of weather conditions and rules and regulations. Work is performed under the supervision of a Baxter Park Ranger 1.

Customer Service Representative II

Position not currently open. However we can not anticipate future vacancies please apply if interested.

This is a public information position responsible for the day-today operation of the Visitor Center located at Togue Pond. This position is responsible for providing information, maps and books for visitors. The employee in this position must have broad knowledge of Park resources and facilities, and must exercise tact, maintaining good public relations with Park users under all circumstances. This position is under the supervision of the Park Naturalist.

Gatehouse Attendant

Position not currently open. However we can not anticipate future vacancies please apply if interested.

This is clerical work in the operation of a park gatehouse facility under the supervision of a Baxter Park Ranger 1. This position must make reservations, monitor radio traffic, explain rules and regulations to Park visitors pertaining to Park use, points of interest and Park facilities. This position requires dealing directly with the general public, employees in this position must be capable of exercising tact and maintaining good public relations with Park users under all circumstances.

Roving Ranger

This is maintenance and personal services work in meeting the public and performing various tasks necessary to properly maintain and protect land, buildings, facilities and the natural resources within Baxter State Park at remote backcountry areas, roadside campgrounds, gatehouses, visitor center or surrounding areas. A person in this position will provide flexible and instant coverage for personnel who have illness, medical appointments, family scheduling conflicts – personnel who resign mid-summer to accept other positions, full-time employment or are terminated.
