Earth Day is April 22 each year, but the snow doesn't melt in Baxter until May. Last year our Earth Day Cleanup on May 5 brought out over 55 people on a litter patrol of 10 miles of road. In honor of Earth Day 2008, Baxter State Park is once again asking for volunteers for a road side litter patrol. Again this year, we will cover the public road from Togue Pond Gate to Millinocket!
Saturday, May 3, 2008 will be the cleanup this year (rain or shine).
Volunteers should contact Park Headquarters by April 29, 2008 to sign up for litter patrol. Those who participate will be treated to a free bar-b-que lunch. We always have a lot of fun and the road looks great!
For more information or to sign up, contact Marcia Williamson at Park Headquarters: 723-8537 or Marcia.Williamson@maine.gov .
In the spirit of land stewardship, we look forward to this opportunity to carry out this community service while celebrating the arrival of Spring with our neighbors in the Katahdin region!
